TOMB OF THE KINGS

Tombs of the Kings is a large necropolis located about two kilometres north of Paphos harbour. It’s one of the most important archaeological sites of Cyprus that has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage. The tombs of the Kings are cut into the native rock, and at times imitated the houses of the living.

The underground tombs, officially known as Kato Paphos necropolis dates from the early Hellenistic period and through the Roman era. Burials continue to take place up to the 3rd-century AD.

They are carved out of solid rock. This archaeological site although is named as Tombs of the Kings, no Kings are buried here. Instead it has been the burial site of aristocrats and high officials of Paphos.

Tombs of the Kings is one of Cyprus’s top tourist attractions. It is on the outskirts of Paphos, well signposted and a large car park directly at the entrance. The fee is only €2.50 which is incredible value for what you see.

There is a small information board at the entrance which tells you a little about the site.  Also at the entrance there is a very basic guide leaflet that you can buy . The site is huge! Recommend for women to avoid wearing high hill shoes and in the summer you would need to take water.

The site is amazing and very interesting. You walk around the whole site and can go in the underground tombs. You are allowed to enter walk into the tombs chambers and it seems to go on and on. The whole site is by the sea and offers great views out to sea and the coast.

The site is also full of wildlife as you walk around you can see all kinds birdlife and beautiful butterflies. It’s a place you can wonder around the whole day and enjoy what it has to offer. Wherever you are in Cyprus you must go and visit.
